We booked a guided tour weeks ahead. Thousands of people visit Hobbiton each day, and the whole organization is rather smooth. Every 10 minutes a new group of tourists is brought from the car park to the 'village'. The tour is expensive, but worth it. The hills are stunningly green, and the tour guide gives a lot of details about the filming of the movies, including pointing out the fake trees. Photo moments are possible at famous spots, and the tour ends with a beer or cider in the Hobbiton pub, the Green dragon.
